Credit Card Fraud

Ever have this happen to you? Ever worry about this happening to you? I have, which is why it pisses me off when I’m at a store and the cashier doesn’t check my ID when I swipe my credit card. And now they have this new fangled thing called TapIt, where all you have to do is tap your card to this pad which invokes a transmitter to pull data off of an RFID in your card. I don’t even want to go into the vulnerabilities of this right now. But I will let you know that most credit card companies and banks are requiring their users to switch to this type of card. Also as of this year RFID tags will be put into all new passports that are issued by the US government. Anyway, last Saturday, January 6 someone stole my wifes Debit Card, which was issue by my Bank and backed by Mastercard, and charged almost $2000 at Wal-Mart. To be more exact there were three charges:
1) 7:38pm $800
2) 7:39pm $512.56
3) 7:40pm $400
The sick thing about this whole thing is that my wifes wallet was taken by a co-worker while my wife was working. Someone went into the break room opened up her locker and grabbed my wifes wallet out of her purse, leaving her purse on the break room table. There were three people working that night that are possible suspects. Currently the case is being looked over by Goshen Police department. Both of our cards are inactivated and our account is unusable. Our bank is supposed to be giving us a “Provisional Credit” but we have not received anything yet and it’s almost Thursday. Our account now is over $1000 in the hole and we need to pay bills. Katy called Goshen PD today and left a message for the detective that is looking over our case, and he hasn’t called us back. We still have to get him to go to Wal-Mart to get the tapes so we can view them. Anyway, Katy and I are pretty pissed about this whole thing. I’m going to find the inconsiderate ass-hat that did this.
