There is a Trojan horse that is targeting OSX that was found on some free porn sites. Pretty much go to a free porn site that requires you to download a codec to view the porn and it installs a trojan horse instead. After downloading the codec you are required to enter your root password which then grants the virus full access to your computer. So those foolishly thinking that macs are virus free, think again. Unfortunately, with more people buying macs more viruses will be written for the OS. Read here for more details.

Play Zombies in Halo 3 Ranked Playlist tomorrow!
Hell yeah! The infection Game type will be in the ranked playlist tomorrow! I have played this as custom gametype before, and it was a lot of fun. The only bad this is the game is over really quick, unless you can get your other teammates to hole up somewhere and defend. You can also get some pretty cool medals tomorrow that are only available in this game type. Read more on Bungie.net
“To celebrate the gustatory tendencies of the walking dead and to acknowledge All Hallows Eve, we’re launching a spooktacular, eerie-otic and cryptmongous playlist for 27 horror-filled hours, starting on October 31st at 12:01am and ending at 3:00am on November 1st—It is infection and it is the playlist of the Living Dead.” -Bungie
Installing OSX Leopard from a DMG file
I ran across a good how to on installing leopard from a DMG file which is helpful if you don’t have a dual layer DVD burner. There are legal ways to obtain a copy of Leopard that comes in a .dmg file. These are spelled out in the how to. If you do have access to a dual layer DVD burner then just burn the stinkin’ image and install that way. This is not something an amateur should expect to do very easily. Read on for more details.
Apple Leopard OSX Installed on an old G4
Well, engadget was sort of successful in this installation. I guess one could say that doing such a thing could be compared to sticking a Hemi into a Chevette. The motor fits, and still runs, but the suspension barely hold the front of the car up, and we can’t go past 30mph, oh and did I mention there are no brakes? It seems that they got it installed, but a lot of useful features such as the DVD player, just don’t work. The OS requires more than just a ATI Rage 128 video card, to do anything pretty. And unfortunately there are a lot of pretty things to see in 10.5. I myself, have pretty much the same computer that they tried the install on. It’s just running the original processor still, which is dual 450mhz G4s. It runs 10.4 just fine, and I’m happy with that. If anyone knows of a super cheap (free) G5 for sale, please let me know.
The knew OS looks like it’s all there. Cheers!
Ubuntu Causing Unnecessary Drive Wear
I bug has been confirmed where Feisty and Gutsy versions of Ubuntu are allowing hard drives to spin down to conserve power and causing excessive wear. In short a drive has an average number of load/unload cycles before it wears out. If the drive isn’t allowed to spin down during use, then there are less load/unload cycles which extends it’s life. It’s not clear whether desktops are affected or not since it’s the Advanced Power Management that is allowing the drive to spin down, and thus extending battery life. I’m not sure why one would put trust into a “Mechanical”
Hard disk Drive to archive data, so as long as you make frequent backups it shouldn’t be a huge deal. But it’s nice to be aware that your Hard disk may not last as long as one would expect.
Comcast is blocking BitTorrent
Just ran across this post and found it interesting since there are many people who use torrents. It seems that Comcast isn’t playing nice and is blocking people from seeding torrents. There are a few workarounds however, one of which is changing your ISP completely. If I had Comcast I would definitely be switching, and not recommending them to others. And I will switch from Verizon, if they decide to pull this shit on us, or decided to filter any traffic at all that is wanted. But what happens when all ISP’s decide to filter traffic? Maybe it would be time to get out of the internet realm altogether and say fuck it, I will do my banking over the telephone, and pay my bills via snail mail. Naahh, I don’t think that could ever happen. Or could it?
