Yaesu VX-7R Mods

———- Transmit Mod VX7 ——————————————————————————————————————
Remove the battery pack.

Remove the sticker/cover seal for the pressure sensing unit (SU-1), in the battery compartment. This is the black strip above cellular warning label and is where the SU-1 option goes.

Locate row of eight jumpers. They are numbered.

For Mars/Cap, remove solder jumper 5.

For Freeband, remove solder jumper 4 and 5.

Reset microprocessor. (Press and hold in the 4, band, and v/m keys while turning the radio on.

You can do all of this or you can do a soft-mod using VX-7 Commander which can be found at KC8UNJ.com. It’s free software and all you need is a programming cable and adapter. This is the route that I took when modifying my VX-7 since it is extremely easy to do, and just as easy to return the radio to it’s original state.
If something should happen to KC8UNJ’s server here are the files on my server.

Yaesu VX-6R Mods

——FreeBand Mod——I just discovered what appears to be the “freeband” mod for the US version of the VX-6R. It requires the removal of one solder blob.

Here’s the procedure:

Turn off the radio and remove the battery.

Remove the stick-on plastic cover that fits over the cutout where the SU-1 goes.

You will see two rows of solder pads, one row of eight (with two pads soldered) and to its right, one row of five (with no pads soldered).

Counting from the left on the row of eight pads, go to the fourth pad and remove the solder from it.

Replace the SU-1 cover and replace the battery.

Reset the microprocessor.

The radio will now transmit from 137 – 174, 222 – 230, and 420 – 469. The TX LED lights up in many other ranges but I have not checked power output anywhere but in the ranges I just mentioned.

GLOCK Goodies

I found some goodies on the interweb for the GLOCK pistol that I would like to share. The first thing a video of a GLOCK pistol being shot underwater. I do not recommend anyone trying this at home. First it’s not good for your pistol or your body. When weapons are shot they expel an immense amount of energy. When you are underwater that energy can be transferred to your body much easier and you which can inflict internal injuries to the shooter and anyone else in the water. You also need a weapon that is equipped to be fired underwater. The second file is a Manual to convert your GLOCK to a fully Automatic. The third file is a video of a fully automatic GLOCK pistol being fired. And the fourth file is a detail strip of a GLOCK pistol. And the guy goes into detail of identifying each part along the way. Enjoy!

OS X 10.4.5 Update (PPC only)

Yesterday Apple released update 10.4.5 (delta) yesterday for PowerPC Macs. This update is 6.4mb and patches a number of bugs and “features” in 10.4. One that I find very interesting is the feature to “crash” while trying to delete AOL webmail. Personally I feel they should of left this feature in to deter people from using and subscribing to EVIL AOL.

Katy, I’m sorry, I was wrong when I told you it was AOL’s fault when Safari kept crashing last week while checking your webmail.

To update to 10.4.5 you must at least have OS X 10.4:
You can update using Software Update which is built into 10.4 or you can download one of the standalone installers:
From 10.4.4 to 10.4.5: Delta update installer
From another version of 10.4 to 10.4.5: Combo Installer

Here is a list of the patches and fixes:

My Very First Computer

Most of my experience on a computer was not at school but on my best friend Andrew’s computer, which was a Acer Aspire 1100 series. I spent a lot of time at his house chatting on AOL and surfing the web. They even let me create my own AOL screen name on their account, CoryGump82. I can’t for the life of me remember what model the ACER was. I do remember it was a black with a handle on the front. If you pulled the handle you could open the computer up by sliding the computer out from the housing.

I got my first desktop computer as a graduation present from my parents. I got it around my birthday (April) my senior year of highschool (2000). It was a used computer which my parents purchased from “Millions Used Computers” in Southbend. It wasn’t until later that I learned that the guy that owns Millions (Tyrone Miller), is over priced and rips people off. Anyway my first PC was a Compaq Presario 4550. It housed a AMD K6 was a 233 mhz, 48 mb RAM, and a 4 GB hard drive. About the only thing it could do was play music and get on the internet. What more could any teen ager want from a machine? I did try to put a cd burner in it but that did not work out. I think the machine crashed everytime I tried to burn a CD or it would do a buffer under run. I joined the military right after highschool and when I got back from my military school I tried to upgrade my computer and learned that it was not upgradeable. I kept the machine until finally it took a crap (I think the power supply took a shit), and then built my own machine, which was really fun! My boss at work, Ron Deal, helped me set it up. But anyway that was about my first computer. What was your first computer??
